Panchayat
A Panchayat is a body of elected representatives for the administration of the Panchayati Raj Institutions. For a Gram Panchayat, it is the main body that implements the decisions of a Gram Sabha and runs the day-to-day administration. The main components of the panchayat are: President: The head of the panchayat is the head of the panchayat. He presides over meetings and supervises the overall activities of the Panchayat. Vice President: Assumes duties in the absence of the President. Ward Members: Elected representatives from each ward of the Panchayat. Standing Committees: To facilitate the decisions of the Panchayat, committees are formed for matters such as finance, development, welfare, health and education.
